When AI makes the shortlist
A buyer asks ChatGPT for the best software for their problem. The answer often names only a handful of vendors and explains why. If you’re missing, you’re not on the list, and there’s no click that would tell you.
GEO (generative engine optimization) means improving what those answers are built on: your website, the facts about your product and the sources that write about you. Our guide to generative engine optimization explains what GEO is and how it differs from SEO.
What’s different for software
Software buyers rarely ask AI for definitions. They ask for recommendations, comparisons and prices. That’s where the shortlist gets decided.
- Comparisons decide
- “What are alternatives to …?” and “A or B?” are typical questions before a purchase. Without your own comparison page, someone else writes the answer.
- Facts have to be right
- AI answers quote prices, audiences and features. If your site doesn’t state them clearly, models guess or repeat outdated details.
- Review sites count
- Software review sites such as G2, Capterra and, in DACH, OMR Reviews can be among the sources AI answers draw on. Your profile there is part of your visibility.
- One market, two languages
- AI assistants sometimes draw on English sources, even for questions asked in German. Your facts should hold up in both languages.
What we do for you
AI tracking with real buyer questions
We ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Google your buyers’ questions on a schedule, repeatedly, and measure who gets named.
Access for AI crawlers
We check and fix which crawlers may read your pages, such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot.
Comparison and alternatives pages
Honest pages for the moment buyers choose between you and a competitor.
Facts models can pick up
Audience, prices, integrations and hosting stated plainly, plus structured data for your organization and product.
Review site presence
Complete, current profiles on the review sites and directories that matter in your category.
Fact checks of the answers
We check what AI answers say about you, and bring the details on your website and your profiles up to date when prices or features are wrong.
How we work together
- 1
Baseline
We ask the main AI assistants dozens of buyer questions and record who gets named, and why.
- 2
Plan
Every question gets a page that answers it. We decide what’s missing and what comes first.
- 3
Execution
Changes go live continuously. A person reviews every single one before it’s published.
- 4
Report
Every Monday: what went live, where you’re named and what changed since last week.

Frequently asked questions
What does a GEO agency cost?
Published entry prices from German agencies for ongoing GEO work run from about €2,500 to €6,000 a month, some with a six-month minimum term. XEO sets its prices at launch. What’s fixed: cancel monthly, and the first customers get founding terms.
How fast does GEO work?
It depends on where you start. Blocked crawlers or missing facts can be fixed in days. Models and search systems often take weeks to months to pick up new pages and mentions. Nobody can honestly promise dates, which is why we measure every week.
Isn’t GEO just SEO with a new name?
Partly. Much of what helps on Google also helps in AI answers. There are also tasks specific to AI answers: allowing crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, stating facts so models can repeat them, maintaining review site profiles and measuring mentions in AI answers. We do both.
Isn’t a tool like Peec AI or Otterly enough?
Tools like these measure well where you show up in AI answers. The work itself is up to you or your agency. XEO measures and does the work. If you have an in-house SEO team, a tool may be the better choice.
Do we need an llms.txt file?
It does no harm, but don’t rely on it. Google says Google Search doesn’t use such files, and we know of no major AI provider that has confirmed reading them (as of October 2026). Crawler access, clear facts and mentions in good sources are the levers that matter more.
Can you guarantee that ChatGPT recommends us?
No, and nobody honestly can. AI answers vary from question to question and day to day. What we commit to is the work and a report every Monday.
